[Committee] Carol Service

I think we'd better go for 200 people with food. An event like that seems a bit lame and formal if there is nothing for people to eat/drink. Being able to say 'free mince pies and hot drinks' just makes it that bit easier to invite friends and catch peoples attention with the publicity. Also, eating gives people a reason to mingle and chat about the talk after the carol service.

That said, if you want I can go down with either you or Rebecca to the conferences tomorrow to see if I can wrangle them into providing seating and food for 250. The great hall is massive - I don't see how 200 can be the limit for safety reasons. We can suggest having the food and drink at different stations to increase flow of people and let them know there'll be someone there all evening encouranging people to sit down and not loiter after getting food.

My opinion is lets not stop thinking big. Still go for it with the publicity as if we manage to get 200 people along that's still about 50 more than we've had in the last couple of years. Also, there's always next year and we can start thinking ahead of what we'd have planned differently.

PS be praying lots for the carol service

So you're saying that we can only put on food for 200 people, but more can still come? Maybe we could set up for 200 and have a load of spare chairs on stand by?

Hey all

Some news on the carol service front. Conferences and Events have said that there's not really any room in the great hall to provide room for 400 people to have mince pies and drinks (health and safety reasons), and theres no other places nearby that are free at that time that we can use. However there is enough room for 200 people to chomp on pies etc.

So it looks like we've got to decide between providing food for less people, or going bigger, but having no food.

If we manage to get 450 people, i think the buzz of that many peeps will create a good atmosphere, so mince pies won't be missed too much, however if we have a big hall with 500 seats but only 200 people, then it might end up being very lame, especially without the food, which kind of draws people in, and help create an atmosphere.

200 there's less people, but it seems like it'll ensure that it's a good night, with a buzz, and some foodage. For me i think i'm leaning towards 200 people.

What does everyone else think?

Cheers

Josh
