Dear friends,

The Imperial College Christian Union's annual Events Week is now just a week away! Events Week is a week where we concentrate all of our efforts and resources into sharing the Gospel on campus. We're very excited and plans are now well under way. Realising that we can do nothing unless we rely on the strenght of Jesus, our prayer secretary, Ben Law, has produced a prayer diary which you can use to support us in prayer both this week and in Events Week itself.

In writing this letter, we hope that you will consider praying with us and for us ahead of and during Events Week. We have a prepared a short prayer diary starting from Monday 2nd February in which we have listed a specific prayer item each day that we would love everyone to be especially praying for. Apart from God we can do nothing, and so we ask that He will provide everything we need to make Him known on campus, and that all our events would glorify Him, that He would be changing hearts and shaping lives.

Date:

Prayer Item:

Monday 2nd February

Imperial College - let’s be praying for the campus, for staff and students. Thank God for all the opportunities past and present that Imperial CU have had to be witnesses for Christ. Pray for Christians to be bold in sharing their faith with coursemates and friends and that they will continue to grow in the Lord during their time here.

Tuesday 3rd February

Publicity - pray that God would be preparing hearts as people are made aware of our events through flyers, posters and social media. Pray that interest will be stirred in people to explore more about Jesus and Christianity.

CU members- be praying for specific friends you could invite next week!

Wednesday 4th February

Club Mission - Club mission is happening today in the evening at the Student Union Sports Night from 7pm-1am. Pray for Peter and his team of willing volunteers, for great discussions and that they would be able to share God’s love with the people they meet.

Thursday 5th February

Sye Pethick - Sye is our events week speaker this year. Let’s be praying for him as he finishes preparing his talks, pray that God would guide his words and that he would declare the gospel boldly and clearly. Pray for rest and energy ahead of and during Events week.

Friday 6th February

Bible Reliability Talk and Live Lounge - There are two events happening today- a lunchtime talk on Bible Reliability (the final Skeptical talk of this academic year) by Rev. Mark O’Donoghue and an evening of coffee and live music provided by Andy Mayo. Let’s thank God for everything He has done through Skeptical this year and pray that the people who come along to these events will be interested in coming along to next weeks’ events/finding out more.

Saturday 7th February

International Students- There are a lot of international students at Imperial, especially from South East Asia, and many of those may never have heard about Jesus. Let’s pray that we would be able to reach them for Christ and invite them along to next week’s events. Will Yang, from St. Helens Church, will be writing up translations of Sye’s talks into Mandarin for people to take away, so please pray for him as he prepares those and that the message of Christ will be communicated clearly to those from other parts of world.

Sunday 8th February

CU Guests- CU Guests are local church workers who willingly offer their time to come and support the CU during Events Week. Let’s thank God for the great support we receive from churches in the area and for providing us with these leaders to help us out practically and encourage us spiritually. Pray that they would be encouraged by everything that happens this week and that they would be well rested and protected.

Monday 9th February

Lunchtime Talks- Today is the first of four lunchtime talks (titles can be found on the event card). Let’s be praying for as many people as possible to come during the week, for Sye as he speaks and that God would be at work in peoples’ lives. Pray for things to run smoothly and thank God for all the CU members/ CU Guests that so willingly help out and make the event happen.

Tuesday 10th February

Film Night- We have a special event tonight where we will be having a talk looking at Christian themes from a film (TBC as of Feb 1st). Pray that it runs smoothly, that the whole evening will be Christ-centred and that people will be continuing to think/digest what they have heard from the last couple of days.

Wednesday 11th February

Everything that has happened so far! There is no specific event today, but this means it is a great opportunity for CU members/guests to meet up with people who have come along to events and see how they have found them so far. Let’s thank God for the last couple of days, be praying that people would be thinking about everything they have heard and that we would see some of them become Christians in days to come. Pray that we would not lose heart if things haven’t gone so well and that we would be trusting that God is in control.

CU members- pray for specific people you may have invited/met over the last couple of days, that they would remain open to the gospel

Thursday 12th February

Q and A- Tonight we will be hosting a Question and Answer session with a guest panel, and it will be an evening where people are free to ask any questions they might have about Jesus and the Christian faith. Pray for our panellists (Sye, Jennifer, Tom and Rachel), that God would give them wisdom to respond to peoples’ questions and again that the evening would run smoothly.

Friday 13th February

Follow Up- Today is the final day! Let’s pray for the final lunchtime talk- ‘Is Jesus worth giving up my life for?’ and also for the follow up work post-Events week. We are planning to use Uncover John, a short series of 6 bible studies, with people who are interested in finding out more about Jesus and the gospel. Pray for those who may be ready to make a decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour of their lives, that there will be an opportunity for them to do so and that they will be followed up upon by CU members and plugged into a local church.

And an encouragement to us all from Romans 1:16:

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we hope you'll join with us in praying big prayers for the upcoming week.

Best wishes,

The Imperial College Christian Union Committee - 2014/15
