Hello to you all,
There's a lot to get through on this e-mail with Impossible 2012 only 4 days away (!), but first things first. Just in case you don't know me, my name is John and I'm the new secretary for the Christian Union (so you will be hearing from me a lot). I think it's only appropriate that the first thing I do is thank Caitlin and the rest of our previous committee for all the hard work they put in last year, I know it made a big difference to me arriving at Imperial for the first time to have such a welcoming, friendly and committed CU!
So what's on this week, you ask? Well, all of this:
This Week:
Prayer Meeting, Chaplaincy Meeting Rooms, East Basement Beit Quad, 8am on Wednesday 14th March:
The weekly prayer meeting, a great opportunity to pray with other members of the CU. Following HUB on the topic of prayer last week, we should remain aware of how important it is to pray, and what better way than by actually doing it?
Flyering, Sherfield Building, 4 Sessions between 12-2pm on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th March:
There will be a separate e-mail (e-mail 2) for this one, Ben Jenkins is organising it so he's the man to ask (I'll make sure his e-mail is on the second e-mail if you do need to contact him). Go along and help advertise to Imperial College the week of events that are now imminent!
HUB, Blackett LT3, 6:30pm on Thursday 15th March:
The main weekly meeting of the CU. This week we will be thinking about the role of the church, so please come along and find out why we should be excited about being in a church as well as the CU!
REQUEST FOR HUB: Please bring all the lights, lamps, miscellaneous other things that can illuminate our live lounge (see below)
Live Lounge, Union Level 1 (Beit), from 7pm on Friday 16th March:
This will be a very informal atmosphere and a great event to bring friends along to, with live music, snacks, cheap pizza and a short talk to get people thinking before the events next week. Be bold when inviting people, and come even if you don't have guests - the more friendly CU faces the better!
Advance Notices:
Impossible? Blackett LT1, Monday 19th March from 6:30pm:
Can scientists believe in miracles? There will be a talk by Rodney Holder, an astrophysicist at Cambridge University and the director of the Faraday Institute. Responses to the talk will also be given by members of staff from our very own departments, so again, one to start inviting people along to - it promises to be a very interesting evening.
Dialogue Supper, Location TBC, Friday 23rd March from 6pm:
Please see e-mail 3 regarding this one, arranged by Joel and Phoebe.
Prayer Request:
A friend of mine at Sheffield University asked if we could be praying for the CU there, as they follow up on new faces who attended their events week last week. Pray that they wouldn't allow new interest to fade away, but would be committed to building relationships and continue to point them to Jesus.
OK I think we're just about there for this week! If anybody notices anything wrong/missing please let me know (cu at imperial.ac.uk) and also I would appreciate feedback on how to make these e-mails more useful for you all (what works, what doesn't) and I'll see what I can do to improve things in subsequent e-mails. Don't forget to check the additional e-mails too!
In Christ,
John Tarrant,
ICCU Secretary
