Hi all, here is a copy of my correspondence with Anna Pearson about the Christians in Science event. If everyone could have a read before Monday then we can decide what to do!

Cheers,
Izzie

Dear Izzie

The purpose of the meeting on the 5th June is to get together Scientists from across London to see if it is feasible to start up a London-wide group with 3 main aims

- to network all of the Scientists across London so that no one is in the situation where they don't know anyone in their subject who is a believer (as I was for the whole of my first year). I realise that Imperial may not have this problem as you are all scientists but in some of the other universities there may well be freshers starting courses who will be the only ones in their year/department.

- to organise events approximately once a term to invite friends and the general public to in order to tackle some of the "big questions." At Royal Holloway last term we had the lecture theatre completely full at our first outreach event - "Is a Belief in God Rational? - A Scientists Perspective"

-if the group grows enough to engage with the media and Humanist societies etc to dispel the myth that all Scientists are Atheists.

I have had lots of positive responses so far and CiS is backing the idea, so it's looking like is feasible and that there is plenty of interest in the idea. The meeting on the 5th will be to expand a bit more on how the group will form and progress (we may be able to present to the General Synod in November), to see where we have links and where we need to from some (I'm still waiting to hear back from Queen Mary's) , start planning the first event for October and most importantly form a committee as I can't do this on my own.

I wouldn't want lots of people form the CU to attend as I don't want this to take the place of groups that are already set up. What would be great is if there are a few people who would be keen to get behind this idea and help get the group going and get involved with advertising and planning etc who could come along.

What do you think?

If could probably come a bit earlier than 6 if it would be easier to meet a few of you before your CU meeting starts.

Thank you for getting in touch,

God Bless,

Anna

Dear Ms. Pearson,

I would like to introduce myself as the secretary for the Imperial College Christian Union. I've recently been in contact with Jennifer Siggers, as she has told us that you're interested in starting a branch of Christian in Science in London and would like to arrange some kind of meeting with the IC Christian Union?

Jennifer isn't sure what your exact plan is and we were wondering if you would be able to give us some more details about what you would like this meeting to be about? We'd certainly be interested in sending a couple of people along but as the proposed date clashes with our weekly meeting and we're in the thick of a busy exam period at the moment, we can't really ask lots of people to attend.

We hope to hear from you soon,

Best wishes,

Izzie Sims
ICCU Secretary
