Ok!

Todd says he can do the Stand-up Cabaret (original email at the bottom), which I think will be best as we'll avoid the pressure of filling a large room in a very busy week of events!

BEN: The photo attached is his publicity photo! For time and place, see next few bullet points PLACE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TO CONFIRM I think...

EVERYONE: What do you think of a small charge? That we can pay for for our friends? Maybe £3? Or not? Just thinking about this donation, and a charge might make the event come across as more legit?

JOHN: What room do you think will best fulfill his criteria (pasted below)?

"As to a venue - I'll fit in with whatever venue you think makes students feel most comfortable. I often do the show in coffee bars and then do close-up illusions before during and afterwards, this is fine for a 40-50 audience size. At Sheffield CU they had a rectangular hall which was less intimate but did mean that over a 100 people were able to come."

Please check out what's still available for that evening asap! I'm thinking the room above the Union (although visibility might be an issue)? How many do you think we could fit in? Or the one opposite it?

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS OF ROOM? Oh! JCR? Could we still possibly get it?? BUT Union room means alcohol, and less chairs to move!

TIME: What do ppl think? If we got the JCR that's starting proper set up at six earliest again right? :S Is there a better way we can set up tables etc (cos that was a killer)? Less wiring required, but still some.

Sorry for the delay in working this out, but please help me get decisions made ASAP so we can get things fixed!

Chloe

Hi Chloe,

Thanks very much for your email. (& apologies too for my slight delay in replying over the Christmas/ New Year season)

I'm pleased to say that I am still available on Monday 28th January, however I will at that time be in the middle of rehousing my (Reality Check Show) illusions,
(moving them to a new location)
so it would work out much better for me if I were to do my Stand-Up Cabaret Illusion Show. It's a combination of apparent Mind Reading, Metal Bending and other illusions, with a message focussed on the reality of Jesus.

Would that be ok for this time?
Please find publicity photo attached.

[Really with the Reality Check Show I encourage organisers to publicise it several months in advance and there's a video promotion that goes hand in hand with it. Perhaps
I could come and do that on another occasion at some future date?]

As to a venue - I'll fit in with whatever venue you think makes students feel most comfortable. I often do the show in coffee bars and then do close-up illusions before during and afterwards, this is fine for a 40-50 audience size. At Sheffield CU they
had a rectangular hall which was less intimate but did mean that over a 100 people were able to come.

Hope that helps,

Yours in Him,

Todd

Hi Todd,

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm very sorry for the delay in replying. We've been thinking about the different show options as a committee, but I also had a major deadline before Christmas which meant I wasn't able to focus on getting this organised.

I'm really glad you're positive about this event. Are you still available on the 28th of January? We would love you to come, but haven't completely decided which show we would like, as it's quite a complicated decision.

As we would hold the event on the university campus, we potentially have access to a lot of different rooms. However they need booking and often other events are competeing for the same space.
Your Reality Check Illusion Show looks amazing and it would be great if you could do that, but unfortunately the ideal room has been booked out already. Our other option would be the Great Hall which has a stage with a curtain (stage area partially flat, and partially with gradual steps) and seats up to 750 but costs £300 to hire. I think we could get a large enough ticketed audience to cover costs, but the other worry is that we will focus too much on advertising this event and not have time for the others going on, as we're hoping you'd come during our Mission Week.

Would it be possible to hold the Reality Check Show in a lecture theatre with a side door very close to the stage area for equipment? Otherwise I believe the best room would be the Great Hall.

On the other hand, for the Stand-up Cabaret there will be a lot more options available: large open rooms where we can set up cafe-style seating, lecture theatres, or even the Student Union Club which has a stage area and bar.

Would you be able to confirm your availability for the evening? We definitely want you to come, and ideally we would like you to do the Reality Check Illusion Show if possible, but otherwise, the Stand-up Cabaret would be fantastic. We'll try and decide ASAP.

Thank you for letting us know about the gifting concept, and for being really positive about the event, and sorry again for the lapse in communication.

Chloe Houghton
