Just to keep you updated, this was the respone from the Chaplain about placing Bibles in halls. I'm going to get in touch with the person he recommends but if you have any suggestions for how to handle this let me know.

Dear Caitlin

Hi, the person to talk to is Trevor Johnson, Head of Accommodation Services – he is on the College global list in Outlook.

I do know that Halls seek to be religiously and politically neutral so as to act as a safe home space for all residents. So your initiative might not get approval on those grounds. There would also be issues of equality of provision –e.g what about other sacred texts? However, this is only my best guess it might worth finding out what the position might actually be by asking about this as a hypothetical question.

Hope that is helpful. Come back to me if you want to talk about this further.

Best wishes
Andrew

Dear Andrew,

I am writing from the Christian Union with an idea that we have had regarding halls this year. We were wondering if it would be at all possible to work with the Gideons to place a Bible or New Testament in the rooms in the Imperial Halls of Residence for the beginning of the coming academic year. We would be happy to liase with the Gideons about placing these but I was wondering if you know anything about whether the College would be likely to allow this and who we would need to contact?

Kind Regards,

Caitlin Halfacre, ICCU VP
