Hi everyone,

I spoke to Andrew Sach last night about changed times of the carol service. He said Saturday evening is possible but not ideal, since he's taking the wedding of a good friend that afternoon and would like to stay for the reception that evening. He graciously said that if we think Saturday evening will be our best Gospel opportunity then he would be happy to do it, but otherwise he'd be reluctant to miss the reception. Also, he said later would be better for him, i.e. 7 or 7.30pm start.

As for other days around that time, he unfortunately said he was no longer available.

I said thank you on behalf of all of us, and that we would continue to look at other options. Personally I think holding it on a Saturday wouldn't get as many people as during the week, so Friday is still ideal. We could pursue other college venues (I know it's late notice John) e.g. a larger lecture theatre, or local churches (what about Holy Trinity by Beit - worth asking? Bad idea to mention that a St Helen's person is speaking though, that might put them off...), or maybe the Royal College have a large hall/venue we could nick?

As for talks, Andrew is very busy and he said he couldn't be sure he'd have enough time to prepare a talk with gaps in it, and apologises. Our options are either one of his Christmas talks from last year, or the one he's working on for this Christmas (not written so he's not sure what it's on yet, but it'll be about Christmas obviously). The previous talks are linked.

2011: The King who hated Christmas (about Herod killing babies), Matthew 2:13-18

2010: Couldn't find this one, sorry. But the other one is good.

His other advice was to speak to someone who's done lots of carol services before to figure out what might be the best readings and songs to have. He suggested Richard Simpkin from St Helen's, who's sorted out literally 100s of them. If people think that would be a good thing to do, I can ask Richard for some advice, and he can probably suggest a few "pre-packaged" service outlines for us. Thoughts?
