Hi Usman,
I've brought these events up with the CU committtee, and we'll get back to you soon about how much/whether we'd like to be involved. Thanks again for getting in touch and being proactive on this, it's appreciated!
One thing that everyone in the committee thought was that it would still be really excellent to have an event next term that is jointly run by the Imperial CU and Imperial ISoc, not by external organisations. We'd feel a little more comfortable with that sort of event - I'm sure you understand! However, we'll still get back to you soon about the two events you've contacted us about.
Cheers,
James

James,
I had cc'd the director of JIF in the previous e-mail so didn't want to put this as it wasn't relevant. I'm talking about the debate I mentioned which we will be hosting. We are not doing anything more than hosting so there's no requirement for the CU to contribute either, however it may still be a nice opportunity for dialogue, for members to get to know one another, and to ask questions that we may have in a safe, relevant environment. So I think it would be really beneficial if there was a good Christian turnout as well, I'm pretty sure we can get a decent Muslim turnout.
Date: 6pm, Monday 26th November
Venue: Skempton LT 201
Topic: The Messages of Jesus and Muhammad
Guests: Sami Zaatari (Muslim apologist), David Wood (Christian apologist)
Format: This event, unlike the JIF event, is indeed a debate. However, the two have debated in the past and the Muslim Debate Initiative who are collaborating with us on this have a very good track record of maintaining very civil and cordial relations.
We will have a poster coming soon, but I wanted to tell you about this before we actually go live with the publicity. Similar to the JIF event, we will be having an Imperial-only policy, except for those who register with us beforehand.
Please do let me know if you have any questions / concerns,
Usman

Hi James,
Following up from our chat just now are some details for the Joseph Interfaith Foundation event proposal.
Timing: mid-Feb
Topic: 'Freedom of Religion in Britain'
Format: presentation of opinions from a representative of each faith society (10 minutes each), followed by an open discussion / Q&A.
It was well-received last year, the topic was 'hate speech' (here are some photos at Imperial from previous years http://www.josephinterfaithfoundation.org/joseph-main/student.php)<http://www.josephinterfaithfoundation.org/joseph-main/student.php>. The event will be joint hosted by JIF and the Islamic Society, and we would like to invite you, the Christian Union, as well as a couple other societies to participate and choose a person to represent the society. Please note that the representative is not obliged to adhere strictly to the views of the faith (which may be impossible to define anyway), and they represent their own opinions when speaking. (By the way, we have not invited the other societies yet, so we would appreciate it if you could let us be the ones to ask please!)
Non-Imperial students/staff will not be allowed, except with prior permission from JIF and ourselves. JIF like to keep it this way to provide a safer environment where everybody can express their opinions openly and also prevent the event being overrun with external organisations. Mehri Niknam, CC'd, is the founder and executive director of the foundation, and she has kindly agreed to chair the meeting.
I look forward to hearing from you, after you've discussed it with your committee members of course. We hope this is something we can work together on! :-) Any questions send my way or to Mehri.
Thanks!
Usman
